Preparing High School Students for Future Careers

Wilmington University highlighted its commitment to career readiness and community engagement at the Appoquinimink School District’s 2026 Workforce Readiness Fair at the Delaware Technical Community College Terry Campus in Dover.
The event brought together 120 business partners and educators from across Delaware and welcomed more than 1,000 11th-grade students exploring college and workforce opportunities. Dr. Shiloh Andrus, chair of the Behavioral Science and Master of Professional Studies programs in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, connected with students throughout the day, offering guidance on educational and professional pathways.
Dr. Andrus led a Workforce Readiness Tips session focused on practical workplace skills, including emotional intelligence, communication and strategic career planning. She also discussed how WilmU programs help students translate personal interests into academic and professional goals.
An expert in building resilience, Dr. Andrus encouraged students to think intentionally about their next steps and to view higher education as a pathway to personal growth and professional opportunity.
