Bridging the Gap between Academia and Community

Dr. Johanna Bishop, director of Behavioral Science programs, has been re-appointed to the Executive Board of the Association for Applied and Clinical Sociology.
An essential part of the AASC’s mission is to translate sociological theories, concepts, and methods into terms readily understandable by non-academic audiences, such as clients, communities, and policymakers. That also includes communications about clinical interventions that improve client outcomes, improving and enhancing lives.
Dr. Bishop’s long and diverse career includes teaching high school drama, organizing a traveling children’s theater group, and conducting leadership programs in the nuclear energy industry. In 2016, she founded the annual Human Trafficking Symposium at Wilmington University and now organizes monthly human trafficking webinars, which are free to social service and law enforcement professionals and other interested individuals.
In her role on the AASC executive board, Dr. Bishop will focus on communications strategy for the organization, helping bridge the gap between academia and the community.
