Military Friendly School Gold Level Icon for 2026-27.

For 15 consecutive years, Wilmington University has been recognized as a Military Friendly® School, including earning the organization’s Gold designation for institutions that demonstrate a strong commitment to serving military-connected students.

This recognition reflects WilmU’s dedication to serving students whose educational journeys may look different from those of traditional college students, including active-duty service members, veterans, National Guard and Reserve members, and military families.

Military Friendly evaluates colleges and universities on their policies, practices, and outcomes related to service members, their spouses, and their families. Earning Gold status places WilmU among institutions demonstrating a sustained commitment to this population and provides prospective students with an independent point of reference as they consider where to pursue their education.

What a Military-Friendly University Means for Students

For military-connected students, choosing a university can involve considerations that extend beyond selecting a degree program.

Military service can mean frequent moves, changing work schedules, deployments, and other responsibilities that can affect when, where, and how a student can complete their studies. A military-friendly institution recognizes those realities as part of the student experience.

“As a veteran working in higher education, I understand that balancing college courses with military service can be complex,” says Dr. James Webb, an Air Force veteran and Wilmington University’s director of military affairs. “These students need to know there are people at their university who understand their experiences and can help them navigate these transitions.”

At WilmU, military-connected students have access to program options designed to accommodate a range of schedules and circumstances. The University also provides information and assistance related to applyingtheir military education benefits

By pairing flexible learning with dedicated support, WilmU helps service members, veterans, and their families to keep moving toward their goals, backed by a community that appreciates their distinct needs.

The Importance of Opportunity

The Military Friendly Gold designation is part of a broader network of national recognitions highlighting WilmU’s student-centered approach. The University is also recognized as a Carnegie Opportunity University, a national classification recognizing institutions that expand access to higher education and help students from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences achieve meaningful educational and career outcomes.

For students, that can translate into career-focused programs and learning formats that fit different schedules, responsibilities, and goals, whether they are serving in the military, transitioning to civilian life, or supporting a military family.

Students Who Inspire

“I always look forward to talking with our military students and hearing what drives them,” says Dr. Webb. “They take the determination gained in service and channel it straight into building their futures.”

Wilmington University is honored to celebrate 15 years as a Military Friendly school and extends its sincere gratitude to the service members, veterans, and families who allow us to partner in their success.
