Accounting and Finance Students Meet Prospective Employers

The Meet the Firms event is a win-win. Accounting and finance students can interact with professionals in their fields. And firms hungry for career-ready talent can connect with prospective interns and employees.

“We are proud to provide our accounting and finance students an opportunity to meet with industry leaders,” says Kathy Ratajack-Kennedy, dean of the College of Business. “The Meet the Firms event is a great opportunity for students to network and identify internship and job opportunities that build upon their College of Business academic program.”

Regional Chair Jean Davis met with representatives of half a dozen firms in advance of the Sept. 28 virtual event, a partnership between the College of Business and Career Services. That included a meeting with Faw Casson, an audit and accounting firm with offices in Dover and Rehoboth Beach, to discuss partnerships, including internships and experiential learning activities.

In addition to attending Meet the Firms, Faw Casson representatives will visit accounting classes at Wilmington University and record a video to introduce students to accounting career opportunities in public accounting. The firm is encouraging its new accountants to enroll in WilmU’s Accounting Review Certificate Program and is providing tuition assistance.

“We currently have three employees from Faw Casson enrolled in the program,” Davis says.

She also met with Courtney Stewart, deputy director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) for the State of Delaware, to discuss internship opportunities. In addition, OMB will attend Meet the Firms.

“There are a lot of different career paths in accounting and finance. This event gives students the opportunity to talk to accountants in diverse fields,” Davis says.
