Dr. Matt Wilson

Wilmington University’s Faculty Athletics Representative Dr. Matt Wilson is stepping onto a national stage. Recently elected to a one-year term as president of the Faculty Athletics Representatives Association (FARA), Dr. Wilson says the role reflects his “deep commitment to helping student-athletes thrive both in the classroom and in competition.”

A member of WilmU’s faculty since 2007 and its FAR since 2018, Dr. Wilson has become a central figure in shaping the academic experience of student-athletes. FARA represents faculty athletics representatives across all three NCAA divisions — professionals who serve as watchdogs for academic integrity and as advocates for student-athlete well-being.

Wilmington Director of Athletics Dr. Stefanie Whitby calls Dr. Wilson “an invaluable member of our Athletics Department,” praising his innovative academic-support initiatives and his leadership in diversity, inclusion, and community engagement.

Only the second person to serve as Wilmington’s FAR, Dr. Wilson has also left his mark beyond the campus. He has chaired the CACC’s FAR group, served on the NCAA Division II nominating committee, and previously led WilmU’s Faculty Senate. His academic background includes an Ed.D. in Higher Education Leadership and Innovation from Wilmington University, along with degrees from Ohio Valley University and Lubbock Christian University.

As he begins his national leadership role, Dr. Wilson says he looks forward to collaborating with colleagues across the NCAA to strengthen the student-athlete experience and uphold the academic values at the heart of collegiate sports.
