From Professional Experience to Academic Achievement

Wilmington University is putting law enforcement professionals on a fast track to a criminal justice degree by recognizing the college-level learning they have gained by completing police academy training.
Through WilmU’s Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) program, eligible officers can earn academic credit toward their criminal justice major for the knowledge and competencies they have developed during academy training, says Dr. David C. Caffo, director of the College of Professional and Continuing Education. By recognizing rigorous, workforce-based learning, students reduce the time and money required to complete their degree while building on the skills they use every day to serve their communities.
“Law enforcement professionals bring valuable, college-level knowledge and experience to the classroom,” says Dr. Jake Andrews, program chair of the Criminal Justice Program. “Awarding credit for police academy training acknowledges that learning and helps adult learners achieve their educational and career goals more efficiently.”
CPL provides students in the workplace with opportunities to earn academic credit for skills they have developed outside the traditional classroom, reflecting WilmU’s commitment to academic quality and student success. To learn more, contact cpl@wilmu.edu.
