Education Leaders Advance in Cape Henlopen School District

Strong educational leadership is on display in the Cape Henlopen School District, where Wilmington University doctoral students and alumni are earning top honors and stepping into key administrative roles.
Julianna Danese, a student in WilmU’s Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership program, was recently named the Cape Henlopen School District’s 2027 Teacher of the Year. A special education and AVID pathway teacher at Cape Henlopen High School, Danese was recognized for her student-centered approach, commitment to student success and ability to create meaningful learning experiences.
The district also announced several key administrative appointments. Alfredo Rodriguez, a current doctoral student, was promoted to principal of Lewes Elementary School. James “Jed” Bell, also pursuing his Ed.D., will serve as assistant principal at Cape Henlopen High School. Dr. Chelsey Wharton, a graduate of the program, joins Lewes Elementary as assistant principal.
Leading the district is Superintendent Dr. Jenny Nauman, who earned both a master’s degree in School Leadership and a doctorate in Educational Leadership from WilmU.
“As we look ahead, we are excited to welcome new leaders and thoughtfully align our administrative teams to best support our students, staff and families,” Nauman said in announcing the appointments. “Strong leadership matters.”
