Partnering to Build a Health Care Pipeline

Wilmington University is partnering with ChristianaCare to provide hands-on, advanced education for WilmU’s newly launched Nurse Anesthesiologist Program.
Students, including nurses from ChristianaCare and other regional critical care health centers, trained at ChristianaCare’s Virtual Education and Simulation Training Center, using lifelike manikins to learn skills such as intubation and mask ventilation.
Dr. Jacqueline Mainwaring, program director, says the partnership will help address the state’s shortage of nurse anesthetists by incentivizing graduates to practice in Delaware. The full-time, 36-month program leads to a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree.
“WilmU and ChristianaCare are helping build Delaware’s nurse anesthesiology workforce by combining rigorous doctoral education with immersive skills labs, high-fidelity simulation at ChristianaCare’s VEST Center, innovative virtual reality simulation, and extensive clinical training,” Dr. Mainwaring says. “Tuition assistance offered by Anesthesia Services, P.A., for students who commit to practicing at ChristianaCare after graduation further strengthens this career pipeline and supports retention of highly skilled anesthesia professionals in Delaware.”
