One hundred twenty-five people attended the free event on WilmU\u2019s Brandywine campus, a response so great that it maxed out the space, with more participants joining online.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<style>.kb-image6618_1d4175-de .kb-image-has-overlay:after{opacity:0.3;}<\/style>\n<div class=\"wp-block-kadence-image kb-image6618_1d4175-de\"><figure class=\"alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.wilmu.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Blog-SOL-Nicole-Mozee-Main-150x150-1.jpg\" class=\"kb-img wp-image-13372\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.wilmu.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Blog-SOL-Nicole-Mozee-Main-150x150-1.jpg 150w, https:\/\/blog.wilmu.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Blog-SOL-Nicole-Mozee-Main-150x150-1-100x100.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><figcaption><em>Nicole Mozee<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re now bringing the action with the words,\u201d says Professor Mozee, named a <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.wilmu.edu\/news\/2024\/04\/12\/wilmu-law-professor-awarded-top-lawyer-honor\/\">Delaware Today Top Lawyer for civil rights<\/a> and Delaware State Bar Association (DSBA) Changemaker. \u201cI hope they walked away with a charge of this is what I can do, this is what I should do, and let me encourage others to do the same.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The symposium, titled \u201cThe Impact of Collaboration and Advocacy\u201d and co-sponsored by the DSBA, examined legal perspectives on activism, hate crimes and voting rights.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOne of the biggest takeaways was with our voting rights panel, which really focused on accessibility,\u201d says <a href=\"https:\/\/law.wilmu.edu\/faculty\/nicole-mozee.aspx\">Professor Mozee<\/a>, who co-chaired the event with WilmU Law Professor <a href=\"https:\/\/law.wilmu.edu\/faculty\/patricia-wise.aspx\"><strong>Patricia Wise<\/strong><\/a>. \u201cDelaware has made a lot of progress in this area, but there are still so many avenues we can explore as a state to ensure equity in one of the most civic and democratic processes you can ever do \u2014 voting.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">NAACP Legal Defense Fund Speaker Offers Insights&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Keynote speaker <strong>Jin Hee Lee<\/strong><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>director of strategic initiatives at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.naacpldf.org\/\">NAACP Legal Defense Fund<\/a>, emphasized education, highlighting the organization\u2019s past and present advocacy.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<style>.kb-image6618_a7c95b-7c .kb-image-has-overlay:after{opacity:0.3;}<\/style>\n<div class=\"wp-block-kadence-image kb-image6618_a7c95b-7c\"><figure class=\"alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.wilmu.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/jin_02-150x150-1.jpg\" class=\"kb-img wp-image-13373\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.wilmu.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/jin_02-150x150-1.jpg 150w, https:\/\/blog.wilmu.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/jin_02-150x150-1-100x100.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><figcaption><em>Jin Hin Lee<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt is just, I think, even more important now than ever before to not only commit but prioritize the importance of racial equity in our educational system because it produces the opportunities and the pipelines that will make us a better country,\u201d she told the audience. \u201cYou know, otherwise we are depriving ourselves from an incredible resource, untapped resource, of people who can do amazing things.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lee discussed the 70th anniversary of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.archives.gov\/milestone-documents\/brown-v-board-of-education\">Brown v. Board of Education<\/a>, which deemed racial segregation in public schools unconstitutional, and she dissected another landmark Supreme Court case: Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard.
