But in some patients, the common illness can quickly become life-threatening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That&#8217;s the focus of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.myamericannurse.com\/peritonsillar-abscess\/\">recent article in <em>American Nurse Journal<\/em><\/a> co-authored by <strong>Dr. Aaron Sebach<\/strong>, dean of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wilmu.edu\/health\/indexh.aspx\">Wilmington University&#8217;s College of Nursing and Health Sciences<\/a>, and <strong>Jessica Stoner<\/strong>, a graduate of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wilmu.edu\/health\/nursing-leadership-master.aspx\">Master of Science in Nursing program<\/a>. Both are mobile nurse practitioners with TidalHealth, taking care directly to patients on Maryland&#8217;s Eastern Shore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The article examines peritonsillar abscess, a serious bacterial infection that can develop as a complication of tonsillitis and block the airway if left untreated.
