Berke, director of Psychology programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a trauma-informed approach, the perspective is shifted. The question is not \u201cWhat is wrong with you?\u201d Rather, it\u2019s \u201cWhat happened to you?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBrain science is now showing that significant developments in early childhood have an impact on our thought processes, how we manage our emotions and interact in our lives,\u201d Dr. Berke says. \u201cFor example, if we know what events led to a person becoming homeless, we are better equipped to help them make positive changes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The training also emphasizes self care for staff members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf you don\u2019t take care of yourself, it is difficult to take care of others,\u201d Dr. Berke says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In keeping with Wilmington University\u2019s commitment to making a difference in the community, the college works collaboratively, including a partnership with Children and Families First, a resource for kids and parents facing adversity.
