class=\"s1\">Sigrid Marfo<\/span>, a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) candidate, is already a successful, certified registered nurse-anesthetist who shared her skills helping patients in a clinic in Liberia \u2014 and also met the president of the West Africa nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignleft size-full is-resized wp-image-1380\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"360\" height=\"442\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.test.wilmu.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Sigrid-360x442-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15275\" style=\"width:350px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.wilmu.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Sigrid-360x442-1.jpg 360w, https:\/\/blog.wilmu.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Sigrid-360x442-1-204x250.jpg 204w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 360px) 100vw, 360px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Liberia\u2019s President George Weah visited Sigrid Marfo and other health care providers who participated in the Operation International Medical Mission.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cShe is interested in improving health outcomes across the continuum and taking her skills to the next level, particularly in Epidemiology and Population Health,\u201d says Dr. Aaron Sebach, chair of Wilmington University\u2019s DNP program. \u201cHer work in Liberia allowed her to put the concepts she learned in class into practice.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"p1\">Marfo worked with volunteer doctors and nurses to treat patients who required surgery and was the sole anesthesia provider in the clinic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"p1\">While in Liberia, she met President George Weah, who visited Marfo and other health care providers who participated in the Operation International Medical Mission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"p1\">The College of Health Professions also organizes medical trips to the Dominican Republic and Kenya each year to help people who don\u2019t have ready access to care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cWe now have a doctoral nursing student from Kenya who met our faculty and students when they were there and became interested in our
