As a professional e-learning developer and technology consultant, Chanda Boone understands the value of online education, which is why she chose Wilmington University. From her home in Chesapeake, Virginia, she’s earning an Ed.D. in Organizational Leadership, Learning and Innovation.

“I researched, I believe, almost every Ed.D. program in the country, and I had a list of criteria. I wanted it to be comprehensive. I wanted it to be affordable. I wanted the class offerings to be well rounded, well suited for a multitude of career choices since I do multiple things,” says Boone, the CEO of Charismata Technologies and a senior learning architect at Hendall.

Because of her work, she recognizes the challenges online students can face and appreciates WilmU’s commitment to supporting online students throughout their academic journeys.

The University fosters “an environment where you feel seen and heard,” Boone says. “There’s a sense of cohesiveness. There’s a sense of support, and you don’t feel like you’re missing anything because you’re online.”

A Broad Range of Accredited Online Degrees

An online learning leader since 2007, Wilmington University offers more than 150 fully online degree and certificate programs and has earned an Exemplary Endorsement for Administration of Online Programs from the Online Learning Consortium™ (OLC). Most WilmU students (93%) take classes online, and 78% complete their degrees entirely online.

“WilmU’s online courses are unique in that they are purposefully designed for the online learning environment,” says Dr. Stephen Buchanan, senior director of instruction and learning innovation. “Online courses undergo continual improvements and enhancements to incorporate engaging instructional strategies, multimedia content and effective uses of technology.”

The University also invests in faculty training and updates its programs to match “labor trends and employer expectations, ensuring that students have opportunities to build the skills they will need to succeed in the workforce,” Dr. Buchanan says.

The WilmU program will elevate everything that you do.

Flexible Online Education

WilmU’s flexible scheduling options include four types of online courses: 100% online; Hybrid, a mix of online and classroom time; Online Live with synchronous Zoom sessions; and FLEX, which gives students the choice to attend classes in person or synchronously online.

“Wilmington University’s online programs are designed to fit the busy lives of our students. Whether you’re working, raising a family, serving in the military or balancing your coursework, you can learn on your schedule,” Dr. Buchanan says. “WilmU also offers dedicated staff who guide students through every step of their online program, from their first class to graduation.”

Online students have access to the same support services as in-person students, including free tutoring and 24/7 tech help.

For Boone, those elements have made the experience meaningful. “The WilmU program will elevate everything that you do. The professors are the epitome of subject matter experts in their field,” she says. “Learning takes place any and everywhere, but the support and the relationships that you develop with the faculty here is what makes Wilmington University stand out.”

WilmU Online Instructor Wins Teaching Award

From an early age, Stephen Scheib admits he was “just that teacher type,” even helping fellow first graders learn to read. Now an adjunct associate professor at Wilmington University, he recently received the 2026 Excellence in Teaching Award from UPCEA, the Online and Professional Education Association.

“It’s not just a job. It’s a passion,” says Professor Scheib, who teaches and designs online courses, including Biology and Applied Chemistry. “To make a difference in a student and adult learner’s life, you have to do more than 99%. You have to push to 100 or 101%.”

As a WilmU alum, he views online instruction through the lens of a teacher and a student. Professor Scheib holds an M.Ed. in Instruction: Teaching and Learning and is earning his Ed.D. in Organizational Leadership, Learning and Innovation.

He calls the University a “thought leader,” adding, “I’ve always tried to develop courses and teach courses that are meaningful to students.”
