Whether you find artificial intelligence interesting or intimidating, experts say you need to know how to use it effectively to keep pace with the workplace, which is why Wilmington University developed a new course called Gen AI and the Future of Work (BBA 201).
“AI will be a powerful partner in the future of work, augmenting human capabilities rather than replacing them,” says Dr. Robin Weinstein, dean of the College of Business and Technology. “The most successful professionals will be those who understand how to leverage AI thoughtfully — combining technology with human insight, ethics, creativity and leadership. Our responsibility is to prepare students for that reality.”
AI Training
This three-credit elective course covers foundational concepts, real-world applications and ethical implications.
The goal is to help students “understand generative AI in a practical, responsible and strategic way,” Dr. Weinstein says. “Rather than focusing only on tools, the course emphasizes how AI is reshaping work, decision-making and organizational roles — ensuring students are prepared to enter the workforce with both technical awareness and critical judgment.”
Offered fully online, Gen AI and the Future of Work is open to all University students, without any prerequisites.
“It’s a fun course. It is not meant to be imposing in any way,” says Dr. John Sparco, director of WilmU’s Division of Data and Computing Sciences. “Some students are in it because they love Gen AI and they want to learn how to use it more. Some students are in it because they’re a little afraid or know nothing about it and they want to get over the hurdle.”
BBA 201 introduces students to generative AI tools that are already widely accessible, and the curriculum demonstrates how AI is reshaping work in virtually every industry.
Because generative AI is increasingly expected in the modern workplace, the course is designed to benefit students from any program of study. Through hands-on learning, students gain practical experience applying AI in ways that add value both personally and professionally.
