Dr. Matt Wilson has two lifelong passions: learning and sports.
Since 2018, Dr. Wilson has served as Wilmington University’s faculty athletics representative (FAR), serving as a vital campus liaison to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA and the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC). He’s now taking on a national leadership role as president of the Faculty Athletics Representatives Association. FARA is the professional association representing faculty athletics representatives across all three NCAA divisions and is dedicated to upholding academic integrity and the student-athlete experience.
“Athletics has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. From cheering on my favorite teams to competing in a variety of sports, including in college, to now having the opportunity to serve in this role,” says Dr. Wilson, director of the Division of Liberal Arts in the College of Education and Liberal Arts. “My journey has shaped a deep appreciation for the role sports play in personal growth. Collegiate athletics allows me to bring that lifelong connection together with my passion for helping students.”
In a statement, CACC Commissioner Dan Mara praised Dr. Wilson’s leadership and devotion to students.
“Dr. Wilson is extremely dedicated to the Faculty Athletics Representative role,” he says. “He makes a difference in the student-athlete experience on his campus, in the conference, and now on the national level. He is an excellent choice to lead FARA.”
