State-of-the-art facility advances student-centered legal education and community access

On Nov. 12, Wilmington University hosted a ribbon-cutting celebration for its new three-story, 52,000-square-foot School of Law building at its Brandywine location

Modern Spaces Built To Inspire Legal Learning

Designed to expand access to student-centered, practice-ready legal education, the facility features a majestic three-floor atrium with expansive windows and a welcoming main entrance and reception area. It contains four auditorium-style lecture rooms and two additional classrooms, designated areas for a law library, law review and private study areas. Ample parking accommodates students, faculty, staff and guests.

The building also features two courtrooms designed to replicate the look, feel and technology of Delaware’s District Court and state courts, providing students with realistic practice environments. Students will participate in mock trials and moot courts, mirroring actual courthouse settings, so graduates entering appellate or trial practice in state or federal courts will already be familiar with the courtroom.

The School of Law building is among the most technologically advanced legal education settings in the country. Classrooms are equipped with modern displays and advanced audio-visual equipment to create flexible and collaborative learning environments for in-person, hybrid and remote learning, as well as lectures from prominent visiting jurists and practitioners. In addition, video-enabled meeting spaces are equipped to offer a seamless hybrid experience for both in-person and remote participants.

Leaders Celebrate a Vision Realized

“This building exists for our students to inspire pride, elevate the learning environment, and turn education into service,” says Wilmington University President Dr. LaVerne Harmon. “Every space was designed for hands-on learning and reflection on putting knowledge into practice, so graduates can stand with confidence in courtrooms and their communities. Our School of Law expands opportunities in the legal profession through high-quality, affordable education. This student-centered philosophy mirrors the Wilmington University mission and will guide how this facility is used every day.”

Wilmington University School of Law serves qualified students from all walks of life, including traditional and nontraditional students and professionals transitioning from other careers. Its program options and unique curricula are built to facilitate student success in an increasingly competitive marketplace.

“This facility is more than a building; it’s a commitment to our students,” says School of Law Dean Jan Jurden. “You feel proud the moment you walk in — a comfortable, beautiful atmosphere that makes the experience richer. It’s built for students, a place where real conversations and hard questions can thrive. To me, it’s a magnificent world of learning and an incubator for future lawyers and judges.”
