Wilmington University’s College of Professional and Continuing Education marked a milestone with the completion of the first Supervisory Academy cohort from the Colonial School District.

Twenty-five employees from transportation, IT, nutrition, facilities, and human resources participated in the eight-session program designed to strengthen supervisory and leadership skills. Colonial Superintendent Jeffrey Menzer said this is his district’s first professional development program for employees in those roles.

Since 2020, WilmU has offered the Supervisory Academy to organizations statewide, including the City of Wilmington’s Public Works Department and municipalities across southern Delaware.

The Colonial cohort participated in three-hour sessions on leadership topics, including managing multigenerational teams, EQ vs. IQ, and building a culture of trust and accountability. Courses were taught by WilmU instructors. Dr. Peter Leida, former Colonial deputy superintendent, facilitated the overall program and led several sessions. At the closing celebration, participants praised the experience as “just what they needed” and said it “helped them to grow” in their leadership abilities.
