Wilmington University is the first institute of higher education to offer two models designed to set students on a pathway to becoming teachers.

WilmU’s College of Education and Liberal Arts has partnered with the Delaware Department of Education, Delaware Department of Labor, and Appoquinimink School District to form a Teacher Apprenticeship Governance Committee. The group is critical to expanding and growing the Teacher Apprenticeship model in the state of Delaware.

This committee will also lead the efforts in developing a Youth Apprenticeship model that will enable Delaware high school students to earn an associate’s degree from WilmU while being employed as a paraprofessional in a local school district. The Youth Apprenticeship model bridges the Registered Teacher Apprenticeship model, allowing more individuals to enter the teaching profession.

WilmU is a leader in creating initiatives that empower students to build careers while helping to resolve Delaware’s teacher shortage.
