Delaware Nurse Anesthesiology Program Opening for Admission in May

Inaugural cohort is anticipated to start in January 2026.
On April 8, representatives of the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA) visited Wilmington University to meet with staff, evaluate facilities and review WilmU’s accreditation self-study for the Delaware Nurse Anesthesiology Program (DNAP), a collaboration of Wilmington University and ChristianaCare, with the support of Anesthesia Services, P.A., and other leading local health care organizations.
The COA Onsite Review Team found the program to be in full compliance with all Standards for Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Programs – Practice Doctorate. They noted no areas in need of improvement and praised the thoroughness of the self-study prepared by program director Dr. Jacqueline Mainwaring. Having achieved this milestone, DNAP program leaders will begin accepting applications in mid-May.
The DNAP will be Delaware’s first doctoral nurse anesthesiology program. The full-time, 36-month program will prepare baccalaureate-educated nurses with at least one year of full-time critical care experience to become nurse anesthetists with a Doctor of Nursing Practice in Nurse Anesthesiology.
Offering more than 2,000 hours of clinical experience in high-acuity settings and covering a wide range of surgical specialties and patient populations across the lifespan, the DNAP will equip graduates to apply evidence-based practices and spearhead health care innovation, ensuring better outcomes for all. Graduates will be prepared to sit for the National Certification Exam to become Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs).
Interested candidates may attend an upcoming virtual information session to learn more.
