Wilmington University School of Law Attains Critical American Bar Association Approval

Wilmington University School of Law proudly announces that it has earned provisional accreditation from the American Bar Association (ABA). Now, its students can sit for the Bar exam, gain admission to the Bar, and pursue careers requiring an ABA-accredited degree.

“This achievement reflects the collaboration and dedication of Wilmington University’s Board of Trustees, administration, staff, and the law school team,” says Wilmington University President Dr. LaVerne Harmon. “Wilmington University School of Law is focused on student success and reflects our mission of providing opportunity, increasing access and affordability, and preparing professionals to lead with integrity. We’re proud that the ABA recognized and approved our law program.”

“Our goal was to secure accreditation before our first class completed their studies, and we are proud to have achieved this crucial milestone.” — Dean Phillip Closius

WilmU Law sought accreditation at the earliest opportunity, submitting a comprehensive application with a self-study and detailed responses to the ABA. In October 2024, an ABA-appointed team verified the information through a site visit, leading to a report for the Council of the Section of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar. Following the review, the Council granted provisional approval, affirming that the law school met rigorous standards.

Wilmington University School of Law welcomed its inaugural class in Fall 2023. This accreditation milestone is particularly significant for these students, ensuring they graduate from an ABA-accredited institution.

“From the beginning, our goal was to secure accreditation before our first class completed their studies, and we are proud to have achieved this crucial milestone,” says Phillip Closius, dean of Wilmington University School of Law.
