In a health care setting, working as a team is essential. At the College of Health Professions and Natural Sciences, members of the faculty leadership team learned ways to strengthen those skills by building trust in a Brené Brown workshop titled “BRAVING Trust in Teams” led by Dr. Karen Sheats, senior director of Human Resources at Wilmington University and a certified Dare to Lead facilitator.

Brown is a researcher, author and management professor at University of Texas at Austin who studies courage, vulnerability, shame and empathy. Before the session, COHPNS leaders completed a leadership assessment and read Brown’s “Dare to Lead” book.

“Dr. Sheats provided valuable insights and strategies for the COHPNS leadership team to implement this academic year. We learned effective strategies for authenticity, trust, and courage,” said Dr. Aaron Sebach, Dean. “As a result of the training, the health professions and natural science leadership team is poised to inspire their respective teams while embracing collaboration and innovation.”
