Wilmington University is a leader in raising awareness of human trafficking, presenting eight webinars over the past four years featuring experts in the field, as well as survivors of human trafficking.
WilmU’s Human Trafficking Studies webinar program has attracted more than 2,700 registrations. Attendees from across the United States and several foreign countries have attended the webinars, says Dr. Johanna Bishop, director of Behavioral Science Programs, who has worked with students to gather data about the level of public awareness regarding human trafficking.
The College of Social and Behavioral Sciences also offers an 18-credit undergraduate Human Trafficking Awareness Certificate program in which medical personnel, law enforcement officers, and mental health professionals can learn to recognize and respond to signs related to human trafficking.
Webinars will resume in the fall and will include a presentation by David R. Garlock, a sexual abuse survivor, returning citizen, and human rights advocate, focusing on disrupting human trafficking. For webinar information see WilmU’s Human Trafficking Studies Webinars.
