Now entering its third iteration, Wilmington University’s successful partnership with Appoquinimink School District allows teachers to earn a Master in School Leadership degree while taking courses on site in the district.

Kevin Wright taught social studies before becoming the instructional media coordinator, overseeing the instructional technology staff in the district Teaching and Learning Office. As he contemplated the next step in his career, he enrolled in classes to gain deeper understanding of the responsibilities of administrators and district leadership.

This innovative structure allows teachers and instructors to collaborate in discussing issues and goals within the district. Courses are taught by district administrators.

“The fact that the program was offered locally was what really sold it for me. It made the conversations in class a very personalized experience. I also enjoyed the cohort structure and connecting with my peers,” he says.

Wright expects that the insights and skills he learned in the leadership program will serve him well throughout his career in education.

“It encouraged me to grow and inspired me,” he says.
