From the Classroom to a Career: WilmU Works for Delaware Pathways Students

Delaware Pathways logoIf you’re a Delaware high school student with an eye on the future, Wilmington University’s partnership with the Delaware Pathways program can help you build your career goals into reality.

Delaware Pathways, an education-based job-training program available at 89 middle and high schools throughout the state, offers exposure to a range of career fields as well as opportunities to develop the academic, technical, and professional skill sets that in-demand jobs are built on.

Through the successful completion of a pathway’s career-oriented courses, you’ll also earn college credits that you can apply toward an associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field at Wilmington University, saving you time and tuition.

“By doing the coursework and getting the right grades, many students have the ability to accumulate credits toward a college degree,” says Lindsay Rice, senior director of academic partnerships at WilmU, “not to mention learning firsthand about the careers they’re interested in.”

The following Delaware Pathways programs provide direct routes into some of WilmU’s most popular undergraduate degrees:

  • Academy of Business Information Management
  • Academy of Finance
  • Computer Science
  • Criminal Justice and Legal Issues
  • Digital Communication Technology
  • Early Childhood Teacher Academy
  • Gene Editing
  • K-12 Teacher Academy
  • Marketing Today!
  • Public and Community Health

More than 23,000 of the First State’s high school students are currently enrolled in pathway programs. If you’re not one of them, ask your school’s counselor or advisor how to get started.

“We’ve seen enormous growth in the program statewide,” says Dr. Robert Rescigno, WilmU’s assistant vice president for partnerships and community affairs. “Delaware Pathways creates a vehicle that provides focus and purpose for students, which is a great opportunity. What WilmU is doing is basically helping them get to the next step in their career path. And we want to get even more students involved.”
