Career Ready in Sport Management

Students who recently earned advanced degrees in Sport Management are living the dream, with 90% of grads landing jobs in the highly specialized industry. Positions filled by WilmU alums include athletic director for Carroll Community College; event supervisor at the Wells Fargo Center for the Philadelphia Union major league soccer team; merchandising manager for the Wilmington Blue Rocks minor league baseball team; and athletic director for First State FC, Wilmington’s semi-pro soccer team.

The Master of Science in Management degree with a concentration in Sport Management is designed to provide students with critical thinking skills and practical knowledge in sports law, governance, service, strategy, forecasting, and risk.

Dr. Janice Wardle, chair of the Sport Management Program, is currently working on upping the game for graduate students by creating project-based learning courses, says Dr. Kathy Ratajack-Kennedy, dean of the College of Business.

Dr. Wardle also participated in a meeting with Futures First Gaming about developing an Esports Certificate or Concentration. FFG hosts events designed to foster Delaware’s gaming community and shine a light on electronic sports.
