Putting Health Care knowledge into action

Dr. Aaron Sebach, director of Graduate Nursing Programs, and DNP student Tammy Walbert combine academic excellence with hands-on, compassionate experience. Both are nurse practitioners at TidalHealth Community Wellness in Maryland, working on the Mobile Integrated Health (MIH) team. This initiative helps keep vulnerable patients out of the emergency room by sending caregivers to their homes.

Walbert was asked to visit the home of a blind patient to administer an antibiotic infusion because staff from his home health agency was not available. Dr. Sebach went with her to assist. Working as a team, they could find ways to benefit the patient far beyond his immediate need.

While Dr. Sebach administered the patient’s IV, Walbert did a thorough health assessment and learned that he did not have a phone, would benefit from Meals on Wheels, and needed his medications organized. Dr. Sebach organized his medicines, while Walbert taught the patient the proper way to take the drugs he needed to be healthy.

Dr. Sebach and Walbert were the first healthcare practitioners from an MIH to administer an antibiotic infusion in Maryland. Walbert was honored with the Daisy Award, an honor for exceptional nurses, for her outstanding kindness to a patient.
