Dr. Klisa Hargrove-Loper, an alumna of Wilmington University’s D.N.P. program, was profiled as a healthcare hero in a YouTube video by AtlantiCare Regional Medical in Pomona, New Jersey.
A nurse anesthetist, Dr. Hargrove-Loper was inspired to pursue healthcare when she was 9 years old and her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. “Caregiving is in my blood,” she says.
Melissa Romeo, a director of nursing at AtlantiCare, describes Dr. Hargrove-Loper as an advocate for patient safety and a compassionate care provider. “Time stops for Klisa if there is a moment to comfort someone,” she says.
In memory of her mother, who lost her battle with cancer last year, Dr. Hargrove-Loper began a nationwide campaign to distribute Angel Care Bags to women undergoing treatment for breast cancer. The bags contain socks, tea, essential oils, and other items that soothe and comfort patients.
Marisol Ramos, a registered nurse who works with Dr. Hargrove-Loper, says she stepped up during the COVID-19 pandemic to provide anesthesia servants to patients in the emergency room and outpatient surgery center. “When other people opted to furlough, she stayed true to her calling,” Ramos says.
