Three Paths to Start or Accelerate Your Project Management Career

Four women in a meeting

Are you interested in Technology or IT Project Management? Here is some great news! The Project Management Institute (PMI) expects to see 22 million new project management job openings through 2027, stating that demand over the next six years for project managers is growing faster than demand for workers in other occupations. Project Management plays an integral role across industries, which allows for flexibility in choosing a career path that aligns with your interests and experience.

Wilmington University’s College of Technology now offers three avenues for starting or advancing a career in this growing field: two graduate-level Dual-Credit Certificates®, one in Technology Project Management and the other in Agile Project Management, and a new Master of Science degree in Information Technology Project Management.

In each program, courses are taught by experienced practitioners who are knowledgeable about the industry-standard technologies and tools that will help project managers best meet challenges and gain success. Each program also provides coursework in Agile project management principles, which studies show support high product quality and customer satisfaction, reduced risks, and increased project control and ROI.

The Technology Project Management Graduate Certificate introduces tactical and strategic approaches to successfully managing technology projects in a career as an IT consultant, project lead or technical project manager. In this five-course certificate program, students learn to manage projects within an organizational context, including the processes related to initiating, planning, executing, controlling, reporting, and closing a project. In addition to providing you with a valuable standalone credential, the 15 credits from this certificate can also be applied to WilmU’s MS in Information Systems Technologies.

The Agile Project Management Graduate Certificate provides the competencies needed by project management professionals, team leads, process engineers, quality managers, IS managers, and systems analysts to gain Agile Project Management perspectives and problem-solving skills to enhance the execution of IT, IS, artificial intelligence and machine learning tools; systems, software, hardware, and engineering projects; and business initiatives and policies. As a Dual-Credit Certificate®, this Agile Project Management certificate not only increases one’s marketability on its own, but can also be used as a stepping stone toward an MS in Information Technology Project Management.

The MS in Information Technology Project Management is an online, 30-credit, interdisciplinary and customizable graduate degree designed to propel the advancement of current project managers, or prepare professionals within the fields of business, health professions, education or IT with the expertise to successfully enter the upper levels of IT project management within their industries. This IT Project Management program includes the option to complete the graduate-level Agile Project Management certificate as part of the degree program—without requiring additional time or tuition.

Surprisingly affordable, WilmU’s graduate-level programs, including these three, offer significant return on investment, with 100% online options that allow students to learn new skills while maintaining their current career, schedule and salary.
