Faculty and staff in the College of Education are sharing their time and expertise to benefit the educational community throughout the state.

Nina Buchanan, associate professor, was recently named chair of the Wilmington branch of the Scholarship Committee of the American Association of University Women. The committee awards scholarships to women in New Castle County attending college programs ranging from associate to doctoral degrees. For the current academic year, the committee awarded $100,000 in scholarships.

Nicole Garrity, WilmU’s adjunct program coordinator for teacher preparation programs, has been named to the Government and Public Relations Committee (GPR) of the Delaware Association of School Psychologists. DASP is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping students thrive in academics and achieve positive mental health and social skills that will help them flourish throughout life.

The GPR committee promotes public awareness of the profession of school psychology and best practices that make a positive difference in students’ lives. The committee also advocates for important educational initiatives and legislation at the local, state, and national level.
