At Wilmington University’s new Center for Prevention Science, a multidisciplinary team provides expertise in criminal justice, education, health care, human services and mental health to public and private organizations.
It’s a unique opportunity for students to serve the community through coursework that could range from fieldwork internships to doctoral level research projects. Through training, needs assessments and policy building, the Center is a valuable resource for school districts, government, community organizations and private employers.
“Most recently our focus has been on working with organizations to address how to provide trauma-informed services to children and adults as outlined by Gov. Carney’s executive order 24 making Delaware a trauma-informed state,” says Dr. Debra L. Berke, director of the Center for Prevention Science and Professor in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences.
The Center focuses on concerns that impact social and public health for adults and children, including substance abuse, crime, human trafficking, obesity, risky sexual behavior, developmental delays and physical disability.
