College of Business to Launch Student Accounting Chapter

A calculator and change stacked

Accountants (IMA) at Wilmington University is an initiative that will give students the opportunity to strengthen their accounting and business knowledge, plan their professional careers, and network with other students and accounting professionals.

The IMA also offers scholarships to local accounting students, says Jean Davis, regional chair of the college, who will serve as faculty advisor.

Students will hear monthly speakers on various fields of accounting, and can receive help with preparing for the certified managerial accounting program (CMA), as well as their CPAs. There also are robust opportunities for networking with successful professionals and business leaders.

“When students go out to look for jobs, it’s great to already have that networking experience,” Dr. Davis says. “That’s also helpful for students who already are working.”

Nationwide, there are more than 100 student chapters open to both undergrads and graduate students. The goal is to train students for business in the real world, building skills in leadership, negotiating conflict and working together as a team.
