DBA Program Collaborates in Joint Student Orientation

A team put their hands together in a circle

In the spirit of interdisciplinary activities between colleges, the Doctor of Business Administration program partnered with the new Doctor of Social Science in Prevention Science program to conduct a joint orientation for incoming fall students.

“This was the start of a new initiative to provide interdisciplinary opportunities to doctoral students,” said Dr. Kathy Kennedy-Ratajack, Dean of the College of Business. “We are working hard to identify more opportunities across colleges to give students a broad range of options.”

The evening orientation for both face-to-face and online students began with welcoming remarks by Dr. Jim Wilson, Vice President of Academic Affairs. The orientation also included a presentation on library resources by Adrienne Johnson, Assistant Director of the Wilmington University Library, an introduction to Blackboard, Collaborate and Portfolium by Christian Broderick, Instructional Technologist, Online & Educational Technology, and a workshop on APA formatting and academic writing style by Matthew Whelihan, English Program Chair for the College of Arts & Sciences.

“It was a wonderful way to bring all the students in at one time and share a lot of great information,” Dr. Kennedy-Ratajack said.

Future plans call for the development of a joint orientation for Spring 2019 online students in the DBA and Social Sciences programs.
