Another Alumna in School Leadership Role

Dr. Taryn Fletcher is the new deputy superintendent of schools for Camden, New Jersey.

Dr. Taryn FletcherAs the second in command, she is overseeing academic programming for the city’s public schools.

Dr. Fletcher has deep roots at Wilmington University. She earned a bachelor’s degree in primary education, a master’s degree in education school leadership and a doctoral degree in educational leadership and innovation, all from WilmU. She is the daughter of Dr. Olivia Roane, who recently retired from WilmU.

“I selected Dr. Taryn Fletcher for this role because she has delivered strong reading and math results in our district, and has experience leading schools, coaching teachers, and developing creative programs for English Language Learners and students with special educational needs,” Dr. Katrina McCombs, Camden superintendent of schools, said in a statement. “Her passion and focus will help our schools continue the great progress they are making in closing the achievement gap.”

Dr. Fletcher has worked in Camden since 2016, where she managed and evaluated all of the school leaders in the district’s elementary and middle schools. Previously, she was a teacher and school principal in Philadelphia and her native Delaware. In 2011, she received the Community Education Award from Philadelphia City Council for her commitment to educational leadership and community outreach.
