WilmU Excels in Video Production

Russ Lichterman

Wilmington University currently has a library of 62,600-plus online videos, with more in the pipeline.

That represents WilmU’s impressive growth in providing the tools, support and expertise required to produce high-quality videos that also reflect WilmU’s brand.

In the early years, educators and others used YouTube and other resources to produce videos, notes Russ Lichterman, Director of Educational Technology and Multimedia.

In 2013, the university began migrating to a cohesive online video platform so that video can be vetted and branded appropriately. The vast majority of those videos are created by WilmU faculty and students in Blackboard using the Kaltura integration.

“The tools are easy to use and we provide very robust training opportunities,” he says. “Our tools are getting upgrades all the time.”

Today, videos are captioned automatically, with the capability for faculty to edit the captions and add quiz questions. They are branded consistently with WilmU’s signature colors. VoiceThread allows users to post slides and video clips and interact with one another.

“We are always looking to improve the academic experience by providing cutting-edge technology,” Lichterman says.

WilmU also has advanced in educating others about e-learning, including the importance of multimedia in online design, offering the College of Online and Experiential Learning’s new E-Learning Design and Technology graduate certificate.

“The certificate is ideally suited to professionals working in the space,” he says. “High-quality multimedia is essential in both education and in business.”
