Our athletes hail from all over the world. And they choose WilmU for a reason.

British athlete Sebastian Coe called sports a universal language; “Building more bridges between people than anything else I can think of,” he says. Collegiate sports are deeply inscribed in American culture and athletes traverse the world to take part in them.

Many travel to WilmU. In 2016, the University welcomed 115 new student-athletes, including about 30 international students. Meet a few of those global stars.

LAURA VAN STEVENINCK | 19 | Women’s Soccer| Monnickendam, Netherlands

“You are a student and not a number at Wilmington University. I wasn’t sure what to expect with the language differences between English and Dutch, but the small class sizes give me the chance to ask questions.”

KEITH SANDERSON | 22 | Men’s Soccer | St. Elizabeth, Jamaica

“From the time I was a kid, I’ve seen people in my community play soccer and I fell in love with it. I knew I always had it in me, but Coach Nick [Papanicolas] inspired me to take it to the next level.”

ISAAC NDIRANGU | 23 | Cross Country | Nakuru, Kenya

“Running is a big part of my life. It’s nice to be on a team where we share the same passion for the sport.”

COLBY WYATT | 22 | Women’s Softball | United States

“The decision to attend WilmU was a no-brainer. The University has a reputation for creating great teachers, and that’s all I’ve ever wanted to be. It’s really the whole package for me to play softball while earning my degree.”

MIGUEL SIERCKE | 24 | Golf | Hamburg, Germany

“The thing I like most about my international experience is being able to represent my school in the sport. Even though golf is usually not a team sport,

it feels good to have teammates around and always have each others’ backs.”
