Our athletes hail from all over the world. And they choose WilmU for a reason.
British athlete Sebastian Coe called sports a universal language; “Building more bridges between people than anything else I can think of,” he says. Collegiate sports are deeply inscribed in American culture and athletes traverse the world to take part in them.
Many travel to WilmU. In 2016, the University welcomed 115 new student-athletes, including about 30 international students. Meet a few of those global stars.
LAURA VAN STEVENINCK | 19 | Women’s Soccer| Monnickendam, Netherlands
“You are a student and not a number at Wilmington University. I wasn’t sure what to expect with the language differences between English and Dutch, but the small class sizes give me the chance to ask questions.”

“From the time I was a kid, I’ve seen people in my community play soccer and I fell in love with it. I knew I always had it in me, but Coach Nick [Papanicolas] inspired me to take it to the next level.”
