Putting on a homecoming festival is no easy task. Nevertheless, a weeklong celebration joined past and current students—and they rocked the Wilmington University Athletics Complex while cheering on the University’s soccer team. WilmU’s Alumni Relations team partnered with Athletics to produce an afternoon of food, fun and games.
The women’s soccer team was tasked with continuing the party that started in the parking lot with pre-game tailgating. They were up to the task, scoring a 6-2 victory over Bloomfield College, their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference rivals. The star, junior Loran Wyrough, tied a program record by scoring four goals against the Bears.
The five-time UCA Small Coed Division II National Championship cheerleading team kept the crowd riveted during halftime, just before the men’s soccer team took center stage.
Although the men didn’t beat the Bears, many former Wildcats were on hand to create a one-of-a-kind atmosphere.
Alumni and current WilmU students who were unable to attend caught a glimpse of the festivities, thanks to support from the College of Technology. Viewers were able to stream the games live on the Internet with a multi-camera angle. Students from the COT were able to get hands-on, real-world experience from streaming the game, bringing the event to 13 countries — and a total of 360 plays. WU
