Executive board members of the Sussex Academy in Georgetown, Del., appointed Denise Westbrook to a three-year term seat. Westbook, the dean of WilmU’s College of Health Professions, joins a board comprised of high profile leaders who hail from businesses such as Schell Brothers Builders and Dogfish Head Craft Brewery. She also joins members of higher education institutions such as Delaware Technical Community College and the University of Delaware.
The Sussex Academy is a public charter school that offers an accelerated academic program for Delaware students in grades six through 10. Its academic program is based on the principles of the Expeditionary Learning curriculum model, which enables students to develop through personal responsibility, self-monitoring and reflection skills, and positive citizenship values. An International Baccalaureate World School authorization team visited the academy in October. Final notice of authorization status should arrive this winter.
