Wilmington University marketing major Laura Cheadle was born into a musical family. Her father owns a professional recording studio in South Jersey and her older twin brothers are accomplished musicians. Laura started singing and playing the piano at the age of 5, and now she, her father and brothers perform as the Laura Cheadle Family Blues Band.
They were named “Best Blues Band of the Year” in 2014 for Tri-State Indie Music Awards sponsored by WXPN. This past summer, the band toured the East Coast (including Wilmington), and will perform in Japan next year. They released two albums last year, “Bruised & Soothed” and “Where The Blues Hangs Out.”
Besides handling lead vocals, playing guitar and “jumping on the drums” now and then, Laura also writes songs. “Every element in my music that I write and perform has a soulful groove underneath that I love to dance and sing to,” she says.
She enjoys writing music, but adds, “There is no high like the performance high. I live for it.”
Now a resident of New York City, Laura says she enrolled in WilmU’s online undergraduate curriculum in marketing in the College of Business because it perfectly fits her lifestyle as a full-time performer who is constantly traveling.
“I have been doing marketing for years with my own career,” she says, “and I thought this would be a great opportunity to learn even more. I’m enjoying the creative projects I’m given, and I’m learning new skills. It’s helping me improve the marketing of my music. And I can literally work from anywhere in the world. The results have been amazing so far. I absolutely love it!” WU
