Joshua Marpet is an experienced Information Security expert. He teaches Digital Forensics, Ethical Hacking, and Ethics of Infosec at Wilmington University. Josh is the managing principal of Guarded Risk, an Infosec Consulting Firm which handles security maturity for startups and enterprise companies. Guarded Risk also handles compliance gap assessments, remediation, and auditor liaison. Guarded Risk recently got a client through it’s SOC2 Type 1 audit successfully, and handles ISO 27001, HIPAA, and PCI assessments as well.
Joshua Marpet is also a principal in Aircomm Networks, a company based out of Arizona, which handles mesh networking and wireless security design and implementation for industrial firms, including mining, fracking, and other energy generation and transmission firms.
As well, Josh is CEO of Smartpaign, a startup with a mobile application designed to help with volunteer mobilization, incentivization, and recruitment, as well as mobile fundraising for political campaigns, and non profit organizations.
Josh is also the head of Custodiet, an open source project designed to develop a framework that allows anyone to start an MSSP (Managed Security Services Provider). The commercial company behind Custodiet (BiJoTi Heavy Industries) has been invited to apply to an accelerator based out of Virginia, and is in the process of doing so.
Josh is also a board member of Security BSides Delaware, the oldest annually re-occurring information security conference in Delaware. The conference is held every year at Wilmington University, and features 2 days, with 2 presentation tracks each day, and a class track every day (4 hour classes). Security BSides Delaware has approximately 250 attendees per day, and is extremely popular with academia as well as government groups. Typically, every year there are attendees from UPenn, Drexel, Temple, FBI, Federal Reserve, NSA, and other groups and universities.
Josh is the Vice President of the Cloud Security Alliance – Delaware Valley chapter. David Lingenfelter, the president of the CSA-DV, and Josh are about to start podcasting interviews with the working groups of the CSA. The Mobile Working group, the HIPAA group, and the Forensics group will be the first few interviewed.
Joshua runs the monthly panels for the Cybersecurity and E-commerce committee for the Philadelphia Bar Association. The HIPAA panel is June 27th, and the Cryptocurrency panel is being scheduled for June.
